----- Edmund Farbrother.

The death of Edmund Farbrother occurred at his home on North Gun Plains at two o’clock last Wednesday morning. The funeral was held from the home at ten o’clock Friday morning, Rev J. Fletcher officiating. Burial was at Hillside cemetery.

Edmund Farbrother was born at Great Rollright, near Chipping Norton, North Oxfordshire, England, April 27, 1826, and would therefore have been seventy-seven years old if he had lived till next April. He came to this country, state and township in December, 1854, about 48 years ago and to the farm on which he died about 45 years ago. He was one of a family of eleven children only three of who are now living, in England. Mr. Farbrother was married about 44 years ago to Celia Brown of Gun Plains. He was a quiet, industrious, well disposed man and was always found attending to his own affairs. The labor of his life was spent upon his farm, transforming it from a wilderness to a pleasant, well-cultivated place. He was a man who always attended religious worship at the schoolhouse in his neighborhood and at the church in the village as circumstances would allow. He was a great reader. To the end of his life he read his newspaper carefully and kept informed as to what was taking place here and elsewhere. The ENTERPRISE had not a more careful and appreciative reader in the township of Gun Plains than Edmund Farbrother. He also read his Bible faithfully and having a good memory retained what he read as well as what had occurred in his life, making him an interesting man in conversation. He would rather suffer wrong that to do wrong to anybody.

He was in failing heath for sometime, yet kept busy. Everything possible was done for him but he gradually grew weaker until the end came.

Obituary of William Baker Stillson
Stillson, William Baker
[Fennville Herald, Friday, August 21, 1925]

the Passing of a Pioneer...With the passing of William Baker Stillson last week Tuesday the oldest of those who remain of the original rugged pioneers who first settled in this community has gone. He was born in Albion, New York, November 1, 1838 and came to Michigan with his parents when a boy of 7 settling in Adrian, Lenawee County. Ten years later the family removed to Ganges since which time for a period of three score years and ten, he has been an upright and honored and respected citizen of this township. The beautiful and productive farm home he leaves is a striking tribute to his enterprise and thrift. At the age of twenty-seven, he married Mrs. Caroline Derby and thereby became step-father to L. D. Wadsworth and Alfred, who died many years ago. Five daughters and a son were born to this union, Eva, Lida, Ella, Caroline, now Mrs. George Gaylord, Katie, wife of Henry Dykhuis and William. Only the last three are living. The wife died twenty-four years ago, August 17.

October 11, 1910, he married Sarah A. Beidle, who preceded him to the better land June 1, of last year.

For half a century, Mr. Stillson has been a consistent member of the Ganges Baptist church, most of the time a deacon and trustee.

Besides the two daughters living in Ganges and a son, William, of South Haven, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sarah Kenter of South Haven, a brother Frank of St. Petersburg, Florida and ten grandchildren.

At the ripe age of four score and seven years, he came to his grave like a shock of corn coming in its season. August 11, 1925 he entered into rest. The large attendance and beautiful floral offerings at the funeral last Friday afternoon bore testimony to the esteem in which he was held in the community of which he has been a member so long and has aided in building up. Services were conducted at the church by Rev. E. J. Cross, pastor of the Baptist church.
